The Power of Safe and Brave Spaces in Public Speaking
Finding the Right Environment Can Transform Your Speaking Skills
Dear Reader,
Have you ever felt fully prepared for a speech, only for nerves to get the better of you when it was time to deliver?
Maybe you rehearsed diligently at home or practiced with a friend. The issue might not be a lack of rehearsal but rather the environment in which you practiced.
Many speakers prepare in a safe space, whether that’s with a coach, at home, or among friends.
This is essential for building confidence and refining your message. But there’s another crucial step: finding a brave space, where you test your skills in front of a less familiar audience.
Brave spaces challenge you in new ways, helping you develop the poise and adaptability to thrive on any stage.
A recent experience with a client highlighted this distinction. She initially sought coaching to prepare for a conference workshop, using our sessions as her safe space to polish her material and delivery.
This was ideal for the familiar environment she’d be presenting in, but when she set her sights on delivering a TEDx talk, she knew she’d need more.
Together, we explored ways she could find brave spaces to practice with diverse audiences and gain invaluable real-world experience.
Discovering Toastmasters
